Happy whatever you want to call it

Jose, Wheat, & White Bob

Some folks make a big deal out of the semantics of holiday well-wishing; I don’t. Whether you say “Happy Holidays” or “Merry Christmas” or “Enjoy the Winter Solstice, Druid Brother!” or most any other winter-time greeting, I’ll just translate it internally to a more generalized wish of good luck. People being nice to one another with no immediate gain in sight is a rare enough event that I don’t split hairs. I’m a fan of “Happy Holidays,” as it is suitably generic and inclusive for use by the (on its better days) pluralistic, democratic society of which I consider myself a member. But it doesn’t please everyone. And I get that.

So, however you like it said to you, I wish you well. Enjoy the end of oh seven and the start of oh eight.
