There’s been plenty of speculation here and elsewhere that Google would start offering online apps that mirror the functionality of Microsoft Office. The first salvo has been launched with Google Spreadsheets. Not only does it give you online, sharable spreadsheets, it also imports and exports Excel format. Nice. I pulled in one that I use to keep track of my sick leave and vacation time without problems. Then I recreated it just to see how the new tools work. Nice again. It only took a trip to the support forum to figure out how to replicate formulas. The monkeys over at Google Labs have really done some good work here. And I expect it’ll only continue. Any ideas what they’ll call the Word ™ killer? That’s going to be a huge hit with the college kids.
