Broadband woes continue…

So, the Comcast folks took the RCA/Thomson DCM 315 cable modem and left me with a Scientific Atlanta WebSTAR DPC 2100. When it works, it works great. But I’ve had to reboot the thing four or five times in two days. It just stops working, forgets is IP address, and leaves me connection-less until I reboot it. I’ve surfed around a bit for fixes, found someone with a similar problem, and learned a bit about the importance of power levels and how to determine them. But I’m still clueless what to do about mine.

I found out that cable modems tend to live on the local 192.168.100.1 IP address (which isn’t too suprising, since my router lives on 192.168.1.1). Though mine doesn’t have any useful diagnotic features enabled at that address, other than a page that tells you model number, firmware number, MAC address and that sort of thing.
