Constitution? We don’t need no stinking Constitution!

I shy away from politics here at wheatblog, but some things are too important not to discuss. There is a bill before the House (H.R.3799) which would give congress the ability to veto decisions of the Supreme Court by a 2/3 vote. This act, which masquerades under the title “Constitution Restoration Act of 2004” is a shameless attempt to undo the system of checks and balances, established by the constitution, which has served us very well since the birth of the nation. There is a similar bill (S.2082) before the Senate. There aren’t many sites reporting this yet, but I’m sure there will be more as time goes on. If you’re a citizen of the US and love your country, you’ll want to fight this one. Do not be mislead by bogus arguments that this act will curb “judicial activism”: that is merely a clever label used by the right to describe any Supreme Court vote they don’t like. All justices (left, right, and center) have political axes to grind: former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore is behind this one. Take a moment to contact your members of Congress about this one (one of mine is a co-sponsor of S.2082. Great).
