I’ve been a father for less than two weeks and everything is a blur. As I’m typing this, Haden is asleep in my lap. He’s on a three-hour feeding schedule, so I’ve gotten used to doing what little productive work I do in smaller blocks of time. I think I can manage the odd sleep cycle. But I’m not sure how I’ll deal with it when I return to work (or how my wife will manage in my absence). How single parents manage is quite beyond me.
Luckily, Haden is a pretty good sleeper. Once he’s changed, fed, and changed again, he’s generally ready for a nice nap until the next iteration. Of course, as he gets older, he’ll have more active time during the day, which is fine (and fun, even). And, eventually, the frequency of the feedings will decrease and the interval between them will increase, making everything more manageable. I often ask parents I know when this happened with their children, but none of them can remember, as they didn’t have time to make a note of it. And that (being as this is my first blog post since the day after the boy arrived) I completely understand.
Since it’s fun to take pictures of Haden, I finally upped my Flickr account to a pro version. And I might modify my blog a bit to incorporate an image widget or something. So, if there’s lull here, you might enjoy surfing over to Flickr and friending me, so you’ll see what’s going on when I don’t have time to string words together. Or, if you’re an RSS type of person, here’s the feed to the latest pics.
