It’s a brisk day here in Charleston. The projected high is only 67 and it is only 62 right now. I like it very much and hope it continues. We had crazy brisk winds this past weekend, but very little rain. It’s just odd weather all the way around.
I’m reading Julian Barnes’ latest novel, Arthur & George. It’s nice to be reading Barnes again. It’s been a while since I read him. I’m still reading Don Quixote, but it was too heavy to take on vacation with me, so I took the Barnes instead. When I’m done with it, I’ll dive back into Cervantes.
Gone are the days when bookish sorts like myself might in any seriousness dream of owning an independent book store, but I did put together an Amazon aStore for Wheatdesign.com. I’m calling it the Wheatdesign.com Book & Film Shop (though I’m tempted to call it Hayes and Sanders, in honor of a great indie bookshop back in Fayetteville that I used to frequent before it went away). I discuss quite a few books and movies here; If you’re curious about any of them (curious enough to order a copy of your very own), a small portion of the proceeds will go into my pocket to help defray hosting costs and buy me an occasional pint of beer. :) I’ll add previously discussed books and films soon. The most recent ones are already there. Henceforth, I’ll link book and references to the aStore, though I’ll still include IMDB links as well for the films.
If I were really industrious, I’d go back through all the posts and link all book references to the new bookshop. Web-savvy folks call that “monetizing a site.” But I call it hard work with no guarantee of a meaningful payoff. So, who knows?
[Update: Barnes has a new essay in the current New Yorker. I haven’t read it yet, but I will.]
