I actually watched the Academy Awards last night, for the first time in years. And I was happy with the results in a lot of categories. I was particularly happy to see Martin Scorsese win for best director and The Departed win for best picture. It was also great to see Alan Arkin pick up the best supporting actor award for his role in Little Miss Sunshine. It was also great to see An Inconvenient Truth take home two awards.
I was a little sad to see Adriana Barraza passed over for best supporting actress and Babel walking away with only the best original score award, though it certainly deserved that one. It was even worse to see Happy Feet awarded for anything.
I was stoked to see Guillermo del Toro take home many awards for Pan’s Labyrinth. I haven’t seen that film yet, but his The Devil’s Backbone is one of the creepiest, and most artful–believe it or not–horror movies I’ve ever seen. So that one is in the queue. I like Forest Whitaker, too, so I’ve added The Last King of Scotland as well.
