Q3 Resolutions

I’ve been lax on officially setting down my resolutions for Q3, even though I’ve had them jotted down in my notebook since before July 1. I’ve been afraid to commit to them, for whatever reason. But here’s the rundown:

  • Cardio at least five days per week
This means 20 minutes or better on the elliptical. Dog walking and other less-intense forms are encouraged but don’t count toward the requirement. To be done in the morning, if possible, so as to enjoy the maximum metabolism boost.
  • Stay on the wagon
Read: stop eating crap. Eat well and feel well. One meal out isn’t an excuse to abandon everything.
  • Keep working on bassplaying.com
I’ve been planing to do a series of instructional videos for my new bass site. And I have more interviews in the works.
  • Keep up the reading
This one seems to be my saving grace this year. I plan to keep it going this fall, which will be harder since I’ll be teaching and having to spend more of my spare time prepping for class. I mostly read on my lunch break. So I want to stick with that and not turn my lunch break into last-minute-class-prep time, as I’ve done in the past. Reading good books excercises parts of my brain that other activities don’t.
  • Make some significant progress on the print version of Wheat’s BassBook
I’m still not sure how to quantify this. Maybe twenty pages more than I’ve got right now. But even that wouldn’t really be enough. This will have to happen toward the end of the quarter. I have a few technical obsticles in the way right now.
  • Review Pimsleur French I
I finished lesson seven this morning in the car. That’s the only time I do these–and only on the morning commute. My brain is too tired, and traffic is too heavy, to try it on the drive home. There are thirty lessons in level I. And I’ve done them all before, so this shouldn’t be hard to make.

In the curiously absent department: record another James, Not Jim track. I’m having hardware issues right now that will have to be resolved before I can do any recording. These will probably get ironed out before the end of the quarter and may leave me enough time to crank something out. But, with school starting up and all, I’m not going to set myself up for failure just yet. The other goals are ambitious enough. If all goes well, maybe I’ll make James, Not Jim the focus of Q4.
