Q2 was a bit of a bust in some ways and a roaring success in others. Some new projects that I’d meant to tackle later came in and took more time than anticipated. And some things just didn’t work out. As usual, I bit off far more than I could chew. Here’s the listing from my notebook, dated 4/1/06:
- Finish two more James, Not Jim tracks
- Do cardio regularly. Try to get down to 165lbs and stay there.
- Review all of Pimsleur French I
- Work on the print edition of wheatsbassbook
- Read more
And here’s how I fared:
- I finished one James, Not Jim track
- About twelve days ago, I started doing the elliptical every morning. I started at 10 minutes but I’m now up to 20 minutes. I dig it. And I dig that I now start the day with a 200 calorie deficit. I’ve never been good at dieting and exercising at the same time. I tend to either workout regularly or diet. I know, of course, that doing both is the most effective approach. And getting my heart going every day is good even if I weren’t trying to lose weight. As for weight, as of this morning, I’m at 175.0 lbs, which is ten above my goal.
- I reviewed the first five or six lessons and then did the first three or four of the French II series. Then I chucked it and decided it might make a better Q3 goal.
- This goal suffered from a lack of specificity. How many pages counts as progress? I worked on the book a bit, but I didn’t make any stunning progress. Most of my musical energy this quarter was spent on launching bassplaying.com, something I had originally intended as a Q3 or Q4 goal. That site launched on June 1 and is already going very strong.
- This one went well. I finished Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, and Graham Swift’s The Light of Day. Now I’m better than half-way through Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood–which is amazing!
So, all in all, not a bad three months. Now I need to decide what should be the focus of Q3.
