Don’t don’t don’t let’s start, this is the worst part

While I was waiting in line and the local Subway today at lunch, I saw Tony Snow on CNN and a banner across the bottom reading, “Snow: Lebanon deserves peace and democracy” across the bottom. And I thought, “Oh, God, is Bush going to drag us into yet another Vietnam? Isn’t one hopeless, senseless failure of a war at a time enough?” Here’s the clip, via YouTube:

As for “deserving” peace and democracy. The pragmatist in me wants to who is going to be bringing this democracy and at what cost (though I think I already know the answer to those questions). The cynic in me wants to know if the peace and democracy we end up bringing to Lebanon will resemble the “peace” and “democracy” that we’ve brought to Iraq. One certainly hopes not.

The hawks are dying to start up another war and drag us even deeper into debt and death. Everyone else in the world (with the exception of the UK and Israel) backs and immediate cease fire. But, of course, diplomacy has never been this administration’s strong point.
