I bought my first accessory for my favorite gadget. The Griffin iTrip is a small FM transmitter that mounts on top of the iPod and broadcasts it’s output onto the (FM) frequency of your choice. Mine arrived on Friday, so I haven’t had a chance to test it on my daily commute. So far, I’ve had a little trouble finding a clear frequency in my neck of the woods (the FM dial is crowded. I’ve found only three frequencies so far that work). And the clarity is not great when you’ve been spoiled by CD audio and high-quality mp3s. Still, having something to listen to besides commercials will be worth a bit of harmonic distortion. And I should be able to find the optimum station, given a little time and experimentation. One funny thing: using iTrip makes you keenly aware of radio towers and other sources of interferance. I had no idea there were so many FM towers within a short drive of my house. I’ll give a more nuanced report when I’ve had a chance to give it a real chance. While you’re waiting, ipodlounge has a short blurb/review about it, with a lot of comments.
