goodbye, knowspam; hello thunderbird 0.9

I’ll admit it, I’m cheap. I’ve really enjoyed using knowspam to help thin the spam out of my inbox. But, when it came time to renew my subscription, I let it lapse. It’s only $20/year, which is very fair. But I’ve had so many “only $20/year” things come due lately, I just couldn’t do one more.

I’ve been using Thunderbird since version 0.4, but a recent storm left me without a box and relying on web-based email apps for a few months. I had heard that the adaptive spam filtering in Thunderbird 0.9 were really good, so, when I finally got my new laptop, I decided to take it for a spin. And I’m happy as a clam. After only a few days, Thunderbird is doing a remarkable job of recognizing spam and moving it out of my inbox. And, so far, I’ve had no false-positives.

Tonight I finally got a new development platform running on the new laptop. I’m running, for now, a basic Windows-Apache-MySQL-PHP (WAMP) setup. This is my first spin with PHP5 (on top of Apache 2). I’ve been hacking a bit on showlister and things are going well, though WinXP is still sluggish.
