Many of you know that I used to work as technology coordinator for Pre-College Programs at the University of Arkansas. President Bush’s new budget proposal would eliminate those programs entirely: not just at my alma mater, but at every college in the US. These programs work. They help student go to college who would otherwise never think they could manage it. These are exactly the sorts of program that a president who cares about education would want to keep in place.
I’m sending letters to my senators and my representative. If you would like to help out, I have some templates in MS Word and RTF format (RTF can be opened by most any word processor). You can use some websites to find and double-check the mailing address of your representatives and senators. In general, snail mail is far more persuasive than email with these people.
Please spread the word. If you have a blog, consider blogging this item. These are truly worthy programs. I saw–first hand–the difference they made in the lives of hundreds of young people.
