Montel goes off-script on a fluff interview segment on Fox ostensibly about the death of Heath Ledger. Montel decides to talk about the lack of war coverage instead.

No offense to Ledger and family, of course; he was a talented actor. But the criticism of the infotainment industry’s tendency to cover such events ad nauseam and to the exclusion of more significant news is well taken (even if Montel’s own show is often a part of that problem).

This was something of a last act of defiance for Montel, who’s network decided to cancel his show following the outburst. Though perhaps that was already in the offing and a motivation for his comments.
