Adobe DRM, Part II

My troubles with Adobe DRM continue. This PDF had worked fine up until today, when I was unable to open it. I’m about to start siding entirely with the “Information wants to be free” crowd.

My dad used to say “Locks keep the honest people out; a thief will get in.” I think that clearly applies here. There’s not a DRM scheme that some clever person won’t hack through–often only for the pure intellectual challenge of it. By conceiving of every customer as a potential thief, the electronic publishing industry will only continue to alienate its paying customers and increase the likelihood that they will either seek out workarounds for half-baked protection schemes or, worse yet, avoid digital publications altogether.

For now, I’ve wasted a few hours researching the problem and filing support requests. See, Adobe, I’m still willing to play by the rules. For now, at least. . .
