Ticketmaster, who can love thee?

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

I’ve been to a few events over the past year that required tickets through Ticketmaster. I remember Pearl Jam’s big battle with that company. And, at first, I thought they were just rock stars in search of something to be morally indignant about. But only takes a few experiences with this king [...]

UbuWeb

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

UbuWeb is something Archive.org but geared entirely toward avant-garde works. They have a huge film and video archive as well as audio and text/print documents of various kinds (even criticism). It’s a strange landscape, worth getting lost in. I’ve barely put my toe in the shallow end of the pool, but this [...]

Art Face Off

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Lately, The Stingy Scholar has been turning me on to cool things including, most recently, artfaceoff.com. It strikes me as what you get when you combine a voting site (think hotornot.com or kittenwar.com) with a discovery site (think pandora.com or any of the gnod.net sites). So, what you get is way to discover [...]

Happy Turkey Day

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

Happy Turkey Day! Pretend that there’s some silly bouncing animated gif of a turkey here. Okay? Or enjoy browsing some of the quarter million or so already posted a flickr.
Seriously, though. Enjoy the holiday. I hope you all have some time off work. And I hope you all gain [...]

Golden

Friday, November 10th, 2006

Once in a while, my ever-waning faith in rock and roll is restored. The My Morning Jacket show has brought me back into the fold. I had heard good things about their live performances, but I wasn’t prepared for just how good they would be and just how hard they would rock. [...]

Applejuice

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Scott Evans has released applejuice, a flash-based image gallery app especially geared toward Picasa users. He describes it as being similar, in some ways, to SimpleViewer. I’ve always liked his minimalist design aesthetic. So I’m likely to dig it.

Off the record

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

My Morning Jacket’s fall tour kicks off tonight in Charleston. A friend invited me, so I’ll be checking it out. I’ll report back with a review.

Election Day

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

It is election day in Carolina and everywhere else in the country. Besides the Governor’s race, there are also several constitutional ammendments to vote on. The biggest flap will probably be over Amendment 1, as it is a gay marriage and civil union ban. I’m sure the residents of a state that [...]

Notepad++

Monday, November 6th, 2006

When it comes to text editors, I’m mostly a jEdit fanboy. But sometimes you want something lighter on system resources–just something to open a Unix formatted README file or do a quick XHTML view/edit. For that, on Windows at least, Notepad++ is a really decent option. It’s based on Scintilla like the [...]
