Netsky, I hate thee

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

For some reason, I’ve had ten or twelve instances of this annoying variant of the Netsky worm in my inbox, starting yesterday evening. Norton AntiVirus has been swatting them like flies, but they still make me nervous. Am I alone in this? Are any of you out there who have your own [...]

Bill Maher: Recall the President

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

Bill Maher gets on my nerves, even when I agree with him (which is fairly often). But this commentary came to me via email. I tracked down the web source to share it with you, but it’s funny and because there’s a lot of truth in humor.

Flash Fun with Napoleon Dynamite

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

The Napoleon Dynamite Talker will amuse you for seconds, minutes perhaps! (Warning: sound, flash-based.) I found this while searching to find the origin of the phrase “the internets” (ditto).

Portable OpenOffice.org

Monday, September 19th, 2005

A cool idea: OpenOffice + USB key drive = Portable OpenOffice. The same guy has done the same trick for Firefox, Thunderbird, and some others. These are Windows-only solutions, I think. Sorry to you Mac and Linux folks.

Avast ye, matey

Monday, September 19th, 2005

It’s talk like a pirate day again. Perhaps you’d like to read wheatdesign.com translated into pirate speak? Thanks to Alex King, whose post reminded me about this fun nonsense.

del.icio.us turns two

Friday, September 16th, 2005

del.icio.us, the grand experiment in “social bookmarking,” turns two today. If you haven’t already discovered this handy tool, check it out. It’s, well, you know, handy.

MySQL + SCO?

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

If this is true, then I’m going to be really upset with the vendors of my favorite open source database app. Maybe it’s time to jump ship and make all my apps run on SQLite (the as-yet-unreleased 1.0 beta version of wB already supports it, thanks to pete). Then again, we’ll have to [...]

Three more from P-Head

Wednesday, September 14th, 2005

The nostalgia continues. I’ve added three more Punkinhead mp3s to the bandography, including a live track recorded at a club where I spent the better part of my young adult life, JR’s Lighbulb Club, which, I was sad to learn just this week, is closing its doors.

Never met a meme I didn’t like…

Wednesday, September 14th, 2005

…or, at least, it’s starting to look that way. Shepcat tagged me with the latest one, which started (and is explained) here. So, before these things get as annoying as chain letters, I’d like to nominate milov.nl, whose photoblog brings me great joy. For more text-heavy diversions, I’ll gladly nominate my friend [...]

New Punkinhead mp3

Monday, September 12th, 2005

Since I’m obviously still caught up in nostalgia, I’ve added a new mp3 by Punkinhead to the bands page (note to self: build a P-head page). This song is from Punkinhead’s debut recording (a cassette-only release). I recently found my stash of P-head tapes, so you can expect more soon. I [...]
