Book meme update

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

My participation in the book meme
proved to be a popular diversion for four of the five people I tagged:
Jack,
Steve,
Fred, and
Kat all
chose to play along. Only Josh managed to abstain. Who started
that thing? Anyone know?

New lesson at Wheat’s GuitarBook

Monday, August 29th, 2005

I added a third lesson to Wheat’s GuitarBook (the red-headed step child of Wheat’s BassBook). Two more and we’ll complete the five patterns of the natural minor scale. After that I’ll cover minor pentatonic and blues before moving on to the major scale. Rock on.

Quicktime VR fun…

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

The Louvre 360 is fun for a few minutes. It’s a series of Quicktime VR shots from, well, you know, the Louvre. It’s a fun for the art as for the visitors in their state of suspended animation.

If you don’t like PHP, don’t use it…

Friday, August 26th, 2005

I like Rafe’s blog quite a lot. I’ve been reading it for years. He’s a Java guy, but I don’t usually hold that against him, until he starts railing against PHP (especially when it’s actually PEAR that’s his problem). As someone who has set up Tomcat and managed to get it working, and [...]

Search page is rolling…

Friday, August 26th, 2005

The Google-powered search page is now rolling. Thanks to Josh for trouble shooting the weird layout issues (that’s getting to be a standard disclaimer around here). Based on a few test searches, I’m fairly amazed that Google seems to have already indexed the contents of the new database back-end.
A few details: [...]

Full feeds (redux)

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

Sorry about the truncated RSS feeds in the past few days. I’m still tuning the wB code for my own site. This post should come through with full feeds (that or it will break the feeds entirely). Here goes nothing…

Flash Earth, Google Talk

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

I’m assuming most of you have already checked out Flash Earth, an amazing app from neave.com. It uses data from Google Maps and Virtual Earth (which probably means there’s a cease and desist order coming sometime soon). This app is a fine example of the kinds of things that can be built–and will [...]

Rolling out the new design…

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

Things might be a little iffy right now. I am rolling out a new design at wheatdesign.com.
[Later:] Okay. Things seem to be shaping up. I have done my best to write redirects for most of the old content. Some things have not been merged into the new design yet. [...]

Comment spammers have found me…

Monday, August 8th, 2005

One of the perks of running an off-the-beaten-path weblog system is that you’re less suceptible to comment span. Well, they have found me. In fact, for some reason, they keep hitting this post. So I’m disabled comments until I can migrate the latest, greatest wB, which has a feature that locks comments [...]

Thursday Flash Fun…

Thursday, August 4th, 2005

I got seven out of ten on the Programming Language Inventor or Serial Killer? (warning: audio) at malevole.com (home of the cool Text Generator). How did you do? Post your score…
Poking around malevole.com led me to Hairstyle Runner, which is also fun and considerably less creepy.
