Here in South Carolina, Democratic Senator Fritz Hollings is retiring after 38 years in office. The contenders for his seat are Democratic candidate Inez Tenenbaum and Republican candidate Jim DeMint. In a recent live, televised debate, DeMint put forth his position that gay and lesbian teachers should not be allowed to teach school because the don’t reflect “our values.” Afterwards, he tried to squim out of it by claiming he was merely voicing a “personal opinion.” So I don’t know whether to hate him more for being a bigot or for not even having the vigor to stand by his own bigotry.
